Lady Liberty how we have betrayed her and a call to action

Lady Liberty –  She stands proudly at the entrance to our shores. Loudly proclaiming for all to hear

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

This week we betrayed her as we did in 1939 when we closed our doors to jewish refugees resulting in their deaths in Hitlers Concentration Camps.

The fear mongering of this administration is abhorrent. If we want to conduct extreme vetting on those who are at most risk to our safety we would be signing orders to vet white American Citizen males 18-28.

As Nikki Haley threatened at the UN this week that they are “taking names” of those in UN who don’t have their backs”

We are taking names! Of all Senators and Congressman who stay silent while White House puts in place bans on our rights, our religious freedoms, on refugees.

We are taking names on Corporations who stand silent. Uber saw that quickly last night when they did not stand with the strike of NYC taxi.

This is not the time for cowardice. Our ancestors, our grandparents, the women before us fought, sacrificed, gave their lives for our freedom.

We owe it to them and to our children and grandchildren now to stand together to protect the rights those before us fought to defend.

This is a crisis of conscience. Any little thing, calling your Congressional representative, sending an email a tweet. Sharing the call to action on your social media.  We all have busy lives…but there are many things you can do that take minimal time.  I promise you the pride you will feel afterward is fabulous.

It’s our turn to honor Lady Liberty’s promise and those who fought before us to pick up the mantle.

Sometimes you need to stop and watch a sunset……..

Recently a friend said to me…”Georgia sometimes you need to stop and watch a sunset”.

It seems like days just whirl by. Laptop is opened to warm up while I go to pour my coffee at 6:30am . Thus  starts a day full of a flurry of activity. Deadlines to keep…meetings to attend…laundry to do….oh and somewhere in there is at least one meal other than the protein bar I call breakfast. Continue reading “Sometimes you need to stop and watch a sunset……..”

a new demand for womens rights…..

Tonight on NBC Nightly news they talked about the contraception issue. 39 states have proposals on deck to limit coverage of birth control. Some states requiring a woman to prove to an employer that she needs birth control for medical reasons and not contraception.

We need to use our voices now…loudly and consistently that we will NOT move backwards. That the misogyny that is alive and well will not win. Whether it is Rush Limbaugh or Bill Maher we must swiftly use our voices to stop the words of female degradation that men like them use to demean us.  We will accept nothing less than equal. That as women we will stand together with the men that support us and fight against those who strive to take us back decades. For ourselves, for our daughters, for those who have fought before us…we will use our voices in unison to stop the attack on our rights, our health, our safety.

In her article linked here she writes about the current War on Women and how it demands a new Women’s Rights Agenda for America. I encourage all women and the men who stand beside us and support us to read this article and add your voice to the cause.

rush rush…our voices drowned our yours………

Did you feel the world axle shift? That was Rush Limbaugh issuing an apology for his outrageous comments directed at Sandra Fluke.

The power of your voices had the arrogant Rush Limbaugh apologizing. The onslaught of protests to the sponsors of his show had  advertisers pulling out of  his radio show.

His apology on his website reads :

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke. My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Does not strike me as a sincere apology but just a response instruction from his bosses and sponsors.

He absolutely meant a personal attack on Sandra Fluke. Even going as far as saying he wanted her to post video when she has sex on the internet for him to watch.

But what I want to speak to here is not a man that is not worth a moment of our precious lives…but the pride I feel in the power of our voices joined together. Social media has given us as never before a path to make quick impact when there are those who try to silence our voices and/or cross the bounds  as Rush did on his show.

We have accomplished much as women to gain our equal rights in this Country. But we have far yet to go.  And I can not say it better on this issue than Sandra Fluke when she said;

“What has been made clear, is that women will not be silenced on this issue, and neither will the men who support them.”

Your voice our voices together  have the power to make great change.

It’s a good day.
